Individual Student Meetings, Small Groups, Classroom Lessons

We work with individual students by self-referral, teacher and/or parent referral. We conduct small groups for specific needs such as academic underachievement, mediation of conflicts with peers or self-control, anger management behaviors.  We also conduct mainstream Classroom Guidance lessons at each grade level:

• 6^th grade - Conflict Resolution and Anti-Bullying Strategies

• 7^th grade - Appreciating Diversity in our school (learning more about themselves and others)

• 8^th grade - Planning for the Future with focus on goal-setting for high school and beyond

Consultation and Collaboration

We work together with parents, teachers, administrators, and others to understand and effectively address the developmental concerns of students through individual or group meetings such as:

• Educational Planning Team meetings

• Parent/Teacher conferences

• Student Support Services meetings

• Consultation with and referral to community agencies and resources

Coordination of Programs and Services

We assist with the provision of services and mandated programs for all students and those with special needs, such as:

• Section 504 eligibility and accommodation plans

• Exceptional Student Education referrals

• English Speakers of Other Languages eligibility and services

• Duke TIP Identification

• Standardized testing programs

• New student and parent orientation

• Identify students/parents for social services and/or community programs

• 8^th grade Orientation/Registration for high school

• 5^th grade Orientation to middle school

• Mentoring/tutoring resources

Peer Helpers

We train Peer Helpers at each grade level. They serve as new student guides throughout the year. Each grade level has an additional special service project.

6^th grade Peers will serve as peer-readers with some of our special needs students weekly during our school-wide DEAR (drop everything and read). They will also help 5^th graders in May with middle school transition.

7^th grade Peers will serve as peer tutors to students who need academic help. They will also be involved with the March of Dimes Chain Reaction countywide Teen Health Conference at the University of Florida.

8^th grade Peers will be trained and serve as peer mediators for students in conflict with each other.
