training camp Parent Coaching 101 We are caring coaches who truly want to help you avoid having "Rookie" stamped on your forehead the first few days of school. Getting your child through the first days, should be the least of your worries. The people at school know what they are doing. Getting YOU through these days is going to be your biggest challenge. Here are some helpful hints that will make your Kindergartener's first "big school" days successful. "HUT !!" 1. A few days before school starts, begin going to bed and getting up early. After the excitement is over on Monday, most kids are cranky and hard to wake, especially on Tuesday! 2. Avoid morning chaos by TEACHING your kindergartener to make clothing and lunch choices the night before. Also, to prevent the notorious 6:00 a.m. shoe hunt, which accounts for 80% of crying children by 7:00 a.m., place shoes and socks beside the backpack. Well organized kids at home are happy kids at school! 3. Put your child's name on EVERYTHING! And, don't send anything to school you don't expect to lose! 4. For comfort and hygiene, be sure your child can manage his/her own button and zippers, and even if you have never had to worry about accidents, pack an extra set of clothes. 5. Teach your child to tie his/her shoes. Straggling laces can be a dangerous and distracting nuisance. 6. Expect that when you ask your child what he or she did in school today, the normal healthy reply will be "Nuthin!" 7. Frisk your child for notices and handouts. This isn't preschool anymore! 8. Appreciate the humor when your child's teacher emails you to confirm whether or not you are moving to Arizona in a week. We'll only believe half of what we hear about you, if you only believe half of what you hear about us!
