COVID Response & Recovery

  • This page provides information and resources to families and employees about the efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in Alachua County Public Schools. Please note, information is always changing and we will provide the latest updates as soon as possible.

You can learn more about COVID-19 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The latest guidelines from the CDC were issued on March 1, 2024. Information about the local response to COVID-19 is available from the Alachua County Health Department.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has updated its Covid-19 guidelines and recommendations for the community. Per their website, 'the U.S. is seeing far fewer hospitalizations and deaths associated with Covid-19 and...we have more tools than ever to combat flu, Covid, and RSV'. Based on the low rate of Covid occurrences the district has seen this school year, SBAC will be updating its Covid policy to coincide with the CDC's recommendations. As of this date, any student or employee with symptoms of a respiratory virus (Covid, flu, RSV, etc.) should remain home and may resume normal activities when:

    - symptoms are improving
    AND
    - after 24 hours of being fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medication.

As part of this guidance, individuals are encouraged to continue taking preventative measures such as enhancing hygiene practices and getting tested for respiratory viruses. CDC's guidance also includes special considerations for those at higher risk of severe illness from respiratory viruses, such as people with disabilities, those who are immunocompromised, young children, the elderly, and people who are/were recently pregnant. Please visit the CDC's website for more information.
