Walter
Dean Myers was born on August 12, 1937 in Martinsburg, West Virginia but moved
to Harlem with his foster parents at age three. He was brought up and went to
public school there. He attended Stuyvesant High School until the age of
seventeen when he joined the army.
After serving four years in the army, he worked at various jobs and earned a BA from Empire State College. He has been writing full time since 1977.

Biddy Owens Is Not A Real Person But In The Book He Is a17 year old. Also he is the equipment manager. Biddy Owens get to travel around the country with all of the Negro league Baseball Players.
The Summary Of The Plot was That The Birmingham Black Barons (which is a team in the negro leagues) has to face a lot of problems with the white folks and with the players of other teams on the field and off the field. The Negro leagues had to deal with the players going from the negro leagues the the Major Leagues to play some white folks ball since Jackie Robinson had broke the color barrier.
