Early Flight Overview
This part of the web site talks about early flight from chinese kites to Da VInci's flying machine and helicopter. The many brilliant ideas that helped mans idea of flight. Unfortunately even though these ideas are brilliant they didn't always work. Some great scientist ran with gliders right off of cliffs which usually resulted in injuries. Leonardo's models like his helicopter and flying machine seemed like they would work but even if they did this is no solid proof that they worked.. Although there were hot air balloons these did not allow people to master flight they just drifted with the wind. Last of all chinese kites were the first thing succesful with flight. I will tell you more about these different types as you read more.
Early Flying Machines
Hot air balloons were succesful and flew well but they had a problem. That was they were pulled by the wind and went whatever way the wind was blowng. Some early flying machines were gliders yet as people were not well aware of how flight worked they usually didn't end up well. But supposedly the first manned flight was in a kite. A chinese prisoner in the 6th century was dropped off a tower while attached to a kite. He supposedly survived this form of execution only to be starved to death. Leonardo Da VInci made a flying machine and a helicopter. It is said he was able to lift off the ground in his flying machine but there is no proof.
