welcome to the history of flight by owen thomas
welcome to how birds fly

Since the first day when humans were around we have been fascinated with flight. wanting to soar among the birds. but that dream only came true in the 1800's thanks to the Wright brothers.

Birds are one of the few species that flight come natural to and even then they all cant fly. But i will tell you how they do fly.

The first things that allows them flight are there bones which are hollow so they are still strong but much much lighter. their feathers also play a roll they are a protective covering and are strong and light like the bones. a lot of their bones are also fused which allows them to operate with less muscle. they are also fast not only with their flight but in everything. all their organs work fast to keep them going. they need food wth lots of calories to keep strong. but unfortunately this makes them have a shorter life span.

The shape of a wing is an airfoil. it is flat on the bottom and raised on the top. the air must go farther and faster on the top than on the bottom for lift to succeed and pull the bird off the ground. because this happens the pressure on the top of the wing is lessened and the birds raises into the sky.

to keep the birds foving the bird flaps it wings this is thrust which moves the bird. to keep energized it needs the high calorie food i talked about earlier. These foods are nuts, fish, seeds, fruit, and rodents.
