Meet the Author: Walter Dean Myers

This right here is Walter Dean Myers. The maker of The Journal of Biddy Owens. Walter Dean Myers is a famous writer and had written many books including, Hoops, The Golden Serpent, Brainstorm, Mouse Trap, Monster, and other awesome books! He has had 35 major awards, including many Coretta Scott King awards. Walter Dean Myers is a writer of children's and young adult books. Walter Dean Myers was born in West Virginia in 1937 but spent most of his life in Harlem. He was raised by foster parents and remembers a happy but rough life while going through his own teen years. Suffering with a speech impediment, he cultivated a habit of writing poetry and short stories and acquired an early love of reading.

In most of the book the setting his mostly the bus, or the any baseball game. Either the Black Baron's were on the road most of season, they were also always playing a baseball game. Considering they had to play four games a day. The time period was 1948 around the time where negro's were still be treated unfairly, and being on a negro baseball team mad it even tougher.

Biddy Owen's is a fictional chacater in Walter Dean Myers Book. He is the equipment manager for the Negro League baseball team The Black Barrons.

Plot

The plot of the story is mostly Biddy Owen's experience traveling aroung the country with the Black Barron's and see how it feels like the be a professional.

What is the Negro Leagues?

The Negro Leagues was like the Major Leagues back when negro's had no rights. Just like they had seperate water fountains, bathrooms etc. They had seperate baseball leagues.
