Lawton Chiles Elementary first opened its doors in 1999. The school was named for the late governor of Florida who cared deeply about the welfare and education of children. Chiles is located in the southwestern part of Gainesville. It is located about five miles from the University of Florida. Lawton Chiles is a part of the School Board of Alachua County. The staff is dedicated to ensuring that Lawton Chiles is "A School for Every Child."
