A Message from the Principal

August 2010

Dear Students,

Welcome back to another school year.  It will be an awesome year!  Congratulations on all your achievements.  Eastside is ranked #17 among America’s Best High Schools in Newsweek.  Our 23 National Merit Scholars, 3 National Achievement Scholars, and a Gates Millennium Scholar are unmatched.  Our math FCAT average score is the highest in the school district.  Eastside teams are defending district champions in 5 sports, with a state championship in Swimming and Diving.  Our students compete on a state and national level in foreign languages, Brain Bowl, speech and debate, engineering and science fair competitions, music, and theater.  Our seniors are admitted to top colleges and win many scholarships.  You go to a great school.  Whether you are a freshman or an upper classman, I hope you embrace the Ram Pride and are looking forward to an exciting year.

Our theme this year is Challenge.  No one truly succeeds without challenges.  A dream is not worth dreaming if no obstacles are overcome to achieve it.  My goal is for each of you to achieve at your maximum potential.  I plan to push you hard, and I expect your teachers to do the same.  Your education is simply too important to let slip by.  Every Eastside student should expect to be encouraged, inspired, motivated—and CHALLENGED this year.  Expectations are high because Eastside is such a great school.  But we can be even greater.  This means you have to work hard, study hard, and always do your homework.  I expect you to be in school every day, focused and ready to learn.  I expect you to behave well, cooperate, and contribute to a positive atmosphere at school.  I expect you to dream big dreams and set out to accomplish them.  We are raising the bar at Eastside and expecting a lot from our students.  Do you accept the challenge?  You are so talented and can achieve so much, don’t settle for less than your best.  The poet William Blake once said: “Great things are done when men and mountains meet.”

Challenges line the path to greatness.  And It’s Great to be an Eastside Ram. Have a great year!

Sincerely,

Jeff Charbonnet, Principal
