About Eastside
Eastside High School is located on the east side of the City of Gainesville and has a student membership of over 1600 during the 2009- 2010 school year. Eastside High School is a diverse school that houses three magnet programs: the Institute of Culinary Arts, the International Baccalaureate program, and the Entrepreneurship program as well as a standard education program for all students who attend Eastside.
The school opened in 1970 and has been served by seven principals: John Dukes, Mae Islar, Dr. Ron Nelson, Dr. Robert Schenck, William Herschleb, Sandy Hollinger, Mike Thorne and Jeff Charbonnet.
Eastside High school hosts over 40 clubs and organizations that compete at the local, state, and national levels. Organizations like Mu Alpha Theta, Key Club, Future Business Leaders of Amer ica, Spanish Club, French Club, Debate and Speech, and Brain Bowl have all competed at these levels and taken home many titles. Athletics is also widespread at Eastside High School. Sports teams compete and perform at the highest levels from football to baseball and tennis.
