AR List

To become better readers and develop a love of reading, students simply must read more! The Accelerated Reader Program motivates children to read more and better books! Through AR's point system, students are recognized for improving the quality and difficulty level of their reading. Research shows that participants in Accelerated Reader Program show faster growth in reading achievement than other students. And, instead of providing a "snapshot" of achievement as many tests do, the program's regular testing offers a continuous, accurate stream of information on your child's reading behavior. The point system offers immediate reinforcement for your child's reading efforts. All children at Glen Springs are encouraged to participate in the Accelerated Reader Program, a path for becoming better readers!

Here's how it works:

	Students check out and read a book in their zip range, noted as BL on the AR list. (This information can be obtained from your child's homeroom teacher.)
	Students take a computerized test to assess their understanding of the book. All students will test on a computer in their classroom.
	After passing the test, the student receives points toward incentives. The point value for each book will be on the AR list and on the bright green sticker located on the spine of the book.
	At different point increments, the students are rewarded for their efforts. (See Incentive Chart)

The Glen Springs' AR list will be posted in the library, in classroom quads, linked above on this page (list is arranged from the lowest level to the highest, with # indicating that a voiced quiz is available for that particular book), and available at the Millhopper Branch library. It's important to use our list to ensure that we have the test for the book your child selects. All Accelerated Reader books in our library have a bright green dot on their spine.

Here's how you can help:

	Encourage your child to check out and read AR books on their level.
	Encourage your child to read the book and take the test by setting aside some time each day for your child to read or for you to read to your child.
	Show enthusiasm and support when your child achieves!
