| To the Safety Patrols:
It is a privilege and an honor to be a Glen
Springs Safety Patrol. You represent the best of Glen Springs Elementary
School.
The teachers appreciate all of your unique
qualities in helping the students of Glen Springs maintain the safety rules.
Protecting the safety of our students also
means greater responsibility for you. Therefore, it will be up to you to
follow these guidelines and take this job seriously.
It is important that you be a good leader,
be accountable, and be respectful at all times.
Remember, observe the rules, but also be a
good listener, and have patience with other students. They look to you as an
example of good behavior.
Mrs. Haile and the Fifth Grade Teachers |
 |
| Safety Patrols are selected from among the fifth grade students.
Students new to Glen Springs must wait until the first report card to be
considered for patrol, unless they were selected by their fourth grade
teachers at their former school. |
In order to become a patrol, a
student must receive satisfactory ratings on the following behaviors for one
nine weeks' grading period. The student will:
 | be courteous and respect the rights of others. |
 | observe rules and regulations in all classrooms, lunchroom,
bathroom, library and hallways. |
 | assume responsibility for his/her actions. |
 | listen and follow directions. |
 | be appropriately assertive with other students. |
 | demonstrate positive leadership qualities. |
 | have passing grades in all subjects. |
 | complete work on time, put forth good effort, and work up to
their potential. |
If a patrol receives an Unsatisfactory (U) or Needs Improvement (N) on
any the above items on his/her report card, they will be suspended form
patrol duty for the following nine weeks. Reinstatement will occur when
he/she receives Satisfactory (S) ratings on the next report card. If the
unsatisfactory grade is received for unfinished work, poor effort or not
working up to potential, reinstatement will occur when progress is made in
those areas or when Progress Reports are issued. If a student is suspended
from patrol for two nine weeks or suspended from school for flagrant
misbehavior, he/she will no longer be eligible for patrol. |

Roles and Responsibilities
Safety Patrols help and guide other students. They're not responsible for the
behavior of other students and do not administer punishment of any kind to
others. Safety Patrols set good examples of safety procedures at all times.
Safety Patrols report to their assigned post before school in the morning and
five minutes before school is dismissed in the afternoon. Patrols should report
to their homerooms as soon as possible after school starts.
Safety Patrols are responsible for flag ceremonies once per week and must
know flag courtesy and show respect for our flag at all times.
More detailed procedures are provided by the patrol sponsor at the
beginning of the school year.
If you ride a bus, please don't choose the following duty areas: Car,
Crossing Guard, and PE. All patrols must be on duty daily and on time. If you
need to leave school early , please inform your officer or teacher in charge.
