W.W. Irby Elementary School

May Highlights from the Principal

Mrs. Burklew

Wow! Where has this year gone? It’s hard to believe that May is here and the end of the school year right around the corner! As we look towards the month ahead, we are excited about all that is yet to come. There is still plenty of learning and fun happening at W.W. Irby! J The highlight for this month is our Educational Fair complete with Book Fair, beautiful Art displays, and nationally known musician, Mr. Jack Hartmann!  It will be held on Tuesday, May 13th from 6-8 p.m.  No doubt, it will be an evening you won’t want to miss. Our teachers are working hard to prepare summer activities and strategies that you can do with your child to help keep their skills sharp this summer.  Stay tuned for more information coming soon…

On a personal note, I would like to thank you for all of your well wishes. I have been overwhelmed by all of your expressions of kindness in celebration of my recent marriage.

Please note the dismissal schedule for the last three days of this school year.  Tues., June 3rd, Wed. June 4th, and Th.  June 5th will be early release days with school ending at 12:30 p.m.  Please mark your calendars and make plans for after school.

If your child will be a first or second grader next year,  please remember that the deadline for submitting a parent input letter to be considered for your child’s class placement for next year is Friday, June 6th. For incoming kindergarten students, the deadline is Friday, June 20th.  We value your input, but ask that you please not name teachers by name, quad, or other descriptors.

Irby will participate in the March of Dimes Walk Mania on Fri. May 16th.  Collection envelopes will be sent home the week of May 5th.  As with Jump Rope for Heart, participation is voluntarily. Thanks in advance for your support.

Please plan to pick up any medication that we have in our clinic for your child by the last day of school.  For safety reasons, medications cannot be sent home with students. Thank you.
