The Kindergarten Teachers, at Irby Elementary, believe that children learn by doing. Children will learn to read by reading, will learn to write by writing, and will learn math concepts through manipulating objects. Children will learn science and social studies through exploration and discovery.

Teachers will spend time developing the children's self confidence. They will let children know that mistakes are okay and we learn from them.

Kindergarten here at Irby Elementary is separated into two sections: Bear Country and Learning Land.

Kindergarten Quotes:
Why I like Kindergarten.

  • The most fun thing we do is math.
  • My favorite thing in Kindergarten is my teacher.
  • We get to cook yummy stuff.
  • I like to come to school because it is fun.
  • We get to go to Art and eat pizza on Fridays.

Kindergarten Supply List
  • Backpack (NO WHEELS) or 2 gallon clear zip-lock bag *** see note below
  • Clorox wipes
  • 2 reams of white copy paper
  • 1 box of tissues
  • Hand sanitizer
  • OPTIONAL - 1 box of any size zip-lock baggies (snack, sandwich, quart, 1 gallon or 2 gallon)

*** We prefer kindergarten student backpacks be CLEAR/MESH/SEE THROUGH. This allows you to see what comes home and the teacher to see what comes to school. If you would prefer, a 2 gallon zip-lock bag makes a fantastic book bag! When the bag wears out, just pull out a new bag. These are also much easier for your child to fold up and store in the cubby. Please make sure your child brings a bag EVERY DAY and that the bag will EASILY fit in the cubby.
