W. W. Irby Elementary School

	A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Irby Elementary is located in the community of Alachua, Florida. The city of Alachua is in Alachua County in north central Florida, approximately 15 miles from Gainesville, the home of the University of Florida. Irby Elementary opened its doors on August 28, 1992 and is named for W.W. Irby, who is an Alachua resident and was a dedicated educator who served as principal at Alachua Elementary School for 28 years. Alachua Elementary had been the K-4 school in the community until there was enough population growth to require a second elementary school. Irby now houses 600 Pre-K to 2nd grade students. For grades 3 to 5, our students move 1.2 miles to Alachua Elementary. We consider our sites as one elementary school housed in two locations.
We, at Irby Elementary, are proud that we have established a tradition of excellence in providing a meaningful education where each child will develop to his/her full potential. The Irby family spirit is ever present, providing a warm and caring environment where "Today's Learners Become Tomorrow's Leaders." Through active parent and community involvement, there is complete teamwork with the mission to provide excellence in education for our children.
