Letter From the Director
Welcome back for the 2007-08 school year. As you may know, Loften High School offers many student activities. Not only do high school activities enrich a student's high school experience, they also provide lifelong lessons as relevant as those taught in the classroom. These activities are a bargain at a cost of only one to three percent (or less in many cases) of an overall school's budget (NHFS).
Participation in athletics teaches lessons such as teamwork, hard work, sportsmanship, and winning and losing. They go hand in hand with the mission statement of Loften High School: "...engaged and experiencing success."
Loften has four sports available for boys and girls; Cross Country, Track & Field, the Bike Team, and Weightlifting. Since we are a small school in number, all student-athletes have a chance to compete at the varsity level even as early as the ninth grade. Participation in all sports has basic requirements including parental or guardian permission, current physical and a signed contract. Forms may be obatined from the head coach or from myself, the athletic director or online. Students must be enrolled in a high school program, maintain satisfactory attendance and have a 2.0 cumulative GPA. Incoming ninth graders are automatically eligible. Ninth and tenth grade students whose GPA's fall below a 2.0 may be eligible if they earn a 2.0 during the next semester.
Our coaches are as follows: Coswell Depeiza, Cross Country and Track and Field, and can be reached at his work number which is 335-1666; Roy Silvers, Weightlifting, can be reached at 955-6839 x113; Cole Childers, LHS Athletic Director, who can be reached at 955-6839 x118. Please call or see him in classroom portable #C-13. You can also e-mail him at childewc@sbac.edu.
Participation in high school activities at Loften is not only for fun, it's often a stepping stone to later success in life. So get involved, have fun and GO EAGLES!
