REQUIREMENTS FOR YOUR MEDIA
CENTER
I. The district requires each school to have
up-to-date copies of the following items in the media center.
If necessary, your media supervisor will review these with you
and assist you to develop a plan for meeting these requirements.
A. County Policy Handbook
B. Access to Media Specialists Online Handbook
C. File of current film routing slips
D. Information Power: Guidelines for School
Library Media Programs
E. Access to the Online Dynix Computer Handbook
F. A Media Center Handbook for your school
which should contain the following:
1. Philosophy of the school
2. Philosophy of the media center
3. Selection Policy
4. Collection Development Policy
5. Censorship procedures
6. Current year's budget, including special funds; such as
Chapter 2, Special State Appropriations
7. 5-year equipment plan (up-dated yearly)
8. Equipment cleaning procedure
9. List of Media Advisory Committee members, meetings schedule,
and summary of meetings
10. Procedures for handling:
Film orders
Circulation
Acquisition
11. Copy of previous year's media inventory report
12. Media goals for current year
G. Online catalog consistent with available
collection
H. LRC problem file (optional but suggested)
II. Reports due this school year
April - Spring media center activities survey due
June - Budget report due
June - Inventory completed
III. Audiovisual materials and equipment need
to be entered on Dynix in accordance with district guidelines
found in the Dynix Computer Handbook.
IV. Dynix tasks to be done this year:
A. Weed all old, unsightly
and outdated materials from your media center.
B. Barcode Numbers under 100 should be replaced.
