a. I am in favor of keeping the Alachua County unique cataloging number system which places like books together that would normally be intermixed in a general area, ie. specific animal types, (ex. all bear books are together), specific countries, (ex. all books on China are together in stead of in two places) , specific holiday books (ex. all Halloween books are together), fairy tales by country, (ex. all Irish fairytale books are together), etc. This means that ALL numbered non-fiction books would always need to be sent in to technical processing as has been the rule in the past.

b. I would prefer to follow standard Dewey practices instead of Alachua County's modified Dewey so that new non-fiction books would be able to be shelved immediately. Animals would not be grouped by species. Fairytales would not be grouped by country. Country books would be in two places, etc. I understand that all media specialists would need to do a library retrofit to convert all existing non-fiction numbers in their collection to standard Dewey if the county adopted this policy.
