When A Library Book is Challenged
 
a. Have patron fill out a complaint form. (Citizens Request Form for Re-Evaluation of Materials )
b.  When completed form is returned set up a committee which includes a member of administration, the media specialist/s and several language arts or reading teachers.
c. Have committee members read the book in its entirety and all the documents below.

Library Bill of Rights
Access to Resources and Services in the School Library Media Program:  An interpretation of the Library Bill of Rights
Interpretations of the Library Bill of Rights
Professional Code of Ethics
ALA Statement on Labeling
Q&A on Intellectual Freedom
d.  Committee will then evaluate the book using one of the documents below.

Checklist for School Media Advisory Committees - Non-Fiction
e. Recommendation is made to the principal to keep the book on the shelves or pull it from the collection of that school.  The book is not pulled until the recommendation is made to the principal to do so.
