-
- 2. How would you rate the cataloging and processing of
books?
a. excellent job (24) b. OK (10) c. poor (1)
- Comment regarding cataloging -
Book cataloging slow - need more people
very few mistakes
good job
- Additional comments by the person who
thought cataloging of books and AV was poor were;
- You should be able to attach to records
with different ISBN's.
- Keyword searches are difficult.
- Some database cleanup needs to be done.
- There should be a separate section
for picture books instead of including them with Easy.
- **These comments do not relate to the
quality of cataloging only to revisions that the media specialist
would like to have made to the system.
-
-
- 3. Has the media supervisor been helpful when you asked
for assistance?
a. yes (35), b. no (0)
Comments;
Nancy is always available, helpful and encouraging. She always
has a positive and supportive attitude. I enjoy working with
her.
Always! (3)
Needs no improvement.
- Good job, accessible
Nancy - You're doing a great job, always helpful, so is Barb.
Thanks for online support!
Thanks for all your help.
Always helpful and supportive. I appreciate it.
Always helpful - prompt replies to e-mail - excellent.
Thank you!
Always responds in a very timely manner.
Always gets back to me ASAP.
Needs to be more proactive in finding solutions.
Every question or problem has been efficiently resolved. I especially
appreciate not having to keep checking back on loose ends. Nancy
has streamlined many of our procedures.
Nancy is very willing to help and assist and she responds in
a timely manner.
Nancy has not only been helpful but also very prompt in resolving
all issues.
Always responds to questions promptly - good job!
You're doing a great job, Nancy!
Mrs. Case will answer her phone or call you back. If she doesn't
know an answer she will find out for you. Very prompt.
Very helpful and always responds in a timely fashion.
Great job!
- Thanks for the "warm fuzzies"!
-
- 4. Have you used the new online handbook this year?
a. yes (28) b. no (5)
Comments and suggestions -
Thanks, just need time to use it.
Doesn't need improvement.
I found it easy to use.
It's great! Perhaps add some more links to good sites on the
web.
It has been an asset to me all year.
I want a hard copy.
It's very helpful the way it is.
Not user friendly.
Add a link to grants and areas to increase monies and equipment
as well as tips from others. This can be
done.
Why isn't media a link on the home page for SBAC? There
is a link under Departments.
A subject index of web sites would be good.
It seems user friendly.
I found it easy to use.
Label the book at the bottom so people will know it is a link.
The Dynix Handbook and the Media Specialist
Handbook are only for media specialists so not labeling the link
is a way to make it mostly accessible only to those who need
to see these documents.
Add the av search to the catalog. You cannot
combine Dynix and the website.
Under weeding - disposal of obsolete/surplus library materials
it tells you to follow the procedures outlined on page t-4. Where
are the procedures? This has been fixed.
Some of the Dynix directions don't exactly match some of my screens
at times. Not a major problem though. Let
me know where the problem is and I will fix it.

- 5. Rate the service you have received this year
from the following jobbers.
Baker and Taylor - a. pretty good (13), b. usually OK (16), c.
poor (7)
Barnes and Noble - a.pretty good (9), b. usually OK (4), c. poor
(0)
Books a Million - a. pretty good (8), b. usually OK (4), c. poor
(7)
Southeast Library Bindery - a. pretty good (6), b. usually OK
(5), c. poor (0)
Comments;
I'd like to use Permabound. I have requested
that Wayne Hackett add a prebound paperback company to our bid
list for the coming year. Hopefully that will happen.
Any chance for getting Follett? - They are more geared towards
k-12 schools and offer great services and book fill rates on
orders.
Baker and Taylor has a poor fill rate.
- No matter how many times I call Baker and Taylor to complain
about placement of barcodes, thy still come in the middle of
the cover; also they really have a low fill rate.
We need to have more freedom to purchase books beyond B&T.
Their fill rate and slowness makes it difficult/impossible to
respond to reachers and students immediate needs.
Baker and Taylor offers poor service, incorrect information,
doesn't have the materials I want, poor web site design makes
ordering difficult.
Bindery was very good.
Books-a- Million - Nobody know what's going on there.
It is frustrating placing an order (with Baker and Taylor) and
waiting and waiting and then having things on backorder and others
out of stock.
Southeast bindery - The binding on the larger (wider) books'
spine gaps.
-
- 6. What inservice opportunities would you like for next
year? (Please be specific as to what you would like to have
inservices on).
Inservices requested -

-
- 7. Is there anything you would like the media supervisor
to do for you that is not now being done?
You are doing great!
Work on getting an extra aide for elementary schools
Get us a big raise
Future of media centers - as far as technology and education,
how we fit in and what we should be emphasizing for the future.
Better public relations for administrative support.
Visit schools more often, send all memos, materials, etc. to
each media specialist if there is more than one at a school.
As of 4/17/01 the Media Supervisor has
made 95 school visits. More time visiting would mean that AV
cataloging would slow down dramatically since the supervisor
does this. Currently we have a good turnaround time for AV. I'd
like to keep it that way.
Wash my car
You are doing a GREAT job!!!! Always positive, I love your statement
that our job is not "guarding the books".
Would like you to recommend that the library be closed during
inventory or at least cancel scheduled classes. Different
media centers have different circumstances, staffing patterns
and work loads, so what works best for one school would not necessarily
be the best thing for another.
Would like you to recommend that all schools with over 800 students
have 1 1/2 media specialists or 2 full time aides and 1 media
specialist. I will certainly
recommend this in the yearly meeting with the superintendant.
Make whatever modifications are necessary to all us to purchase
from Permabound or Econoclad. I
have made a request that a prebound company be added to the county
bid list.
No complaints or problems with anyone at media services.
Get out of the Baker and Taylor contract. If they had a 15 million
dollar judgment against them, their contract should be null and
void. June 30, 2002 their contract will
be up and the county will evaluate their past performance to
determine if they or another company will be the primary jobber.
Let us order from Follett, Permabound and Rourke.
Keep on representing our points of view to the county office.
You are a trooper!
- I would like pockets glued in my books in technical services.
More regular MediAlerts
-
- 8. Is there anything you would like us to order, either
for the professional library or for the film library?
Anansi the spider on video format like the one that was on film.
We already have this on video.
Any new Weston Woods videos.
More class sets of high school books (ex. lower lever of Romeo
and Juliet)
- Marci Buchannan does this, not Media
Resources.
Please order videos of Caldecotts each year.
5th gr. videos on civil war, wwI, wwII, continent studies for
3rd grade
An additional copy of how to de-junk your life.
video - Nightmare on drug street (69.95) Lincoln has it.
More chess videos.
Call it courage - Disney
Martha Ann and the Mother store
More science videos for middle school
- Requested items will be ordered.
-
- 9. Did you receive adequate instructions and assistance
with problems when you did your last inventory? a. Yes (37)
b. No (0)
-
- 10. Additional comments on other issues.
Need high tech support person in every media center.
Best department in the county!
Please add a section to evaluate the director of media services.
That would have to come from Jim. If he
requests it I can add an evaluation of the director.
Thank you for all you do.
I think everyone does a fine job - often under less than adequate
conditions. I especially appreciate everyone's flexibility.
Kudos to booking for always handling my requests or blunders
in a friendly professional manner.
Andy has been very helpful with our TV/VCR situation.
Uma is always a blessing.
TV workshops were great!
Some support should be given to media specialists who also volunteer
to be tech reps. While it is voluntary is affects our media positions
greatly. Maybe a support group or sharing of ideas. It is difficult
to maintain a collection and do two full time jobs.
You're doing a terrific job Nancy!
I would like to see more communication between Jim and Nancy.
A lot of the questions we have are media/technology related and
sometimes Nancy is unable to answer them because Jim hasn't had
the opportunity/time to discuss them with her. My recommendation
is to set up regular short meetings to exchange info/ideas/concerns
from both tech and media. We will do this.
Things are running very smoothly.
