In the workplace, it is necessary to
maintain a friendly professional atmosphere, no matter what your actual
feelings may be. All library employees should follow the Professional
Behavior Agreement below.
Professional Behavior Agreement
1. I will be courteous to everyone at all times. I
will smile and interact in a friendly and courteous manner with other
employees and patrons. I will say "Good Morning, Please and Thank You"
to everyone, no matter what their position is relative to mine.
2. I will share information with all library
employees at the same time. Hoarding information is not acceptable.
3. I will give everyone the opportunity to give
input and receive feedback on their ideas. I will keep lines of
communication open and encourage new ideas and creativity.
4. I will not micromanage the jobs of others.
I will allow them to accomplish goals in their own way.
5. My first goal will be communication so that
everyone understands who makes decisions, how decisions are made, and what
decisions they can make.
6. Change is inevitable. It is expected that I
will learn and grow. Flexibility and learning new things will be a
priority.
7. I will consciously make an effort to praise each
one of my staff members at least once a week.
8. Any disagreement with staff members will be
addressed quickly, professionally and in a courteous manner.
Information will be provided as to why decisions were made.
9. It is not acceptable to gossip about other
staff members. When I have a issue, I will not talk with other
staff members about it. I will openly discuss it with the person
involved first, then, if it is still unresolved, I will discuss it with my
supervisor.
10. I will make the library my priority. This
includes how the library looks and how patrons feel while they are there.
Other library staff are my peers and I will not hesitate to lend a hand to
others when needed.
Ideas were taken from workshop, "How Can I Help Them Get
Along? Conflict Resolution Skills and Strategies for Library Middle
Managers", Sponsored by the State Library and Archives of Florida with
SWFLN, NEFLIN and SEFLIN.
