NORTON KNIGHTS
Learning is the Key at Norton Elementary

First Grade

Welcome to First Grade at Norton Elementary.  The first grade teachers are:  Steavi Arnett, Debra Barnhart, Nicole Carusone, Kimberly Hughes and Kristin Zunker.  These teachers bring to you, and especially to your child, a wealth of resources and experiences.

Reading is one of the most important things your child will learn this year.  Through the use of charts and big books, shared experiences, guided groups, centers, group and individual reading activities, our children are reading throughout the day.

Each Wednesday, we celebrate “Wacky Wednesday” when all of the day’s activities center on a particular theme.  This is often the favorite day of the week!  Each Friday, we have Sunshine Surprise for all first graders who complete their daily in-class assignments, exhibit good behavior, and return completed homework.

This year promises to be full of fun and friends for your child!  First graders will visit a dairy farm to learn about cows and making milk.  Taking a nature walk and visiting the zoo at Camp Kulaqua is an exciting spring activity.  We even have the extraordinary children’s music singer, Jack Hartman, putting on a concert here at Norton!

We look forward to working with your child this year.  Please do not hesitate to contact us at anytime.
