OVMS is proud to present the “Coffee with the Counselor Series” for the 2008-2009 school year. Join other OVMS parents, teachers and experts to have refreshments and talk about what you and your family can expect during these crazy years of middle school!
All the meetings will be held in the media center at 6:30pm. Please call Anne Powers, 352-472-1102, so we can save you a seat. Last minute guests are always welcome too! (The dates are subject to change, but will be advertised before the event.)
September 25, 2008: “Middle School Craziness”
We hope you’ll join us as a pediatrician, mental health counselor, experienced teacher and … guide you through helping your student survive their pre-teen and teen years. Be ready to ask questions and gain valuable information from these professionals.
November 18, 2008: Keeping our Kids Safe on the Internet
Discover what your students are being exposed to on the internet and how you can talk to them about the dangers. We will show you how common sites such as myspace and urban chat work so that you can better monitor your children. We will also give you valuable tools you can use to know what your student is doing on the internet.
January 22, 2008: Making the Grade: Helping your Student Succeed on the FCAT
FCAT time is a very stressful time for many students. Bring your number two pencil and experience what the students experience on testing day. We will give you information on test format, test taking tips and ways to cope with test anxiety.
