Band Students Receive Honors
Congratulations to Rhiannon B., Brodie R., Zac R., Patrick C., and Alisha G. for being selected for the 2009 Alachua County Middle School Honor Band! The students were selected based on an audition. Over 150 students auditioned for the Honor Band and 80 were selected to represent their schools in this prestigious ensemble. The students rehearsed all day at Howard Bishop MS on April 27th with guest conductor Jane Lucas. Mrs. Lucas is currently the orchestra director at Seminole High School and bands and orchestras under her direction have consistently earned Superior ratings and are well know around the state.

On April 28th the students performed a concert at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts for some of the 5th graders in Alachua County and that evening performed a joint concert with the Alachua County High School Honor Band. The Middle School Honor Band performed high school level literature with only 11 hours of rehearsal time and had two wonderful concerts! The five students from Oak View did a wonderful job representing our school. They are pictured here in front of the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts before the 5th grade concert. Congratulations on a superb performance!

The Oak View Percussion Ensemble performed "Fresh Trash" for the School Board on Tuesday, May 5th at 6:00 pm. It will be televised live on the public access channel on cox cable. "Fresh Trash" is an ensemble in the spirit of STOMP! and is played on trash cans. The percussion ensemble performed this piece at the FBA District Solo & Ensemble MPA in February and earned a Superior Rating .
