The design department supports all PostScript fonts that can print on the Xantˇ Accel-A-Writer 8100a laser printer, Apple LaserWriter IIg laser printer, and the Hewlett Packard 560C color inkjet printer. The most important thing to
remember is that the f
ont you use to create your document must also be
available to us for printing, either as a resident font, a soft
font, or a downloaded font.
Resident fonts are internal fonts that are permanently installed
in a printer's memory, and are alwa
ys available. You can
expect the highest quality results when you use resident fonts to create
your document.
Soft fonts are typefaces that are stored on cartridge or disk and
loaded as needed on the printers. Soft fonts allow the
printer
to be customized with additional fonts that document creators may
require for special applications.
PostScript Soft fonts: The design department supports all Adobe Type 1 or
Type 3, and TrueType fonts. TrueType fonts contained in PostScript
jobs are rendered from PostScript Type 1 copies of the TrueType font, as supplied in the PostScript master
file. The quality of the PostScript Type 1 rendition of your desired
TrueType font depends on the ability of the print driver and the existence
and quality of any hinting information that might be necessary. Typically,
if any differences are noticed, they are found in larger sizes of some
fonts (48 points and larger).
Downloaded (embedded) fonts: If you incorporate or embed fonts
into your document, the PDL file can be processed automatically by the printer. As
soon as the document prints, this font is erased from the printer's memory.
To ensure accurate printing, the exact font that is requested
in your source document must be available to the printer, either as a
resident font, a soft font, or a font embedded in the document. Font
substitution will occur
if the requested font is not found.
PostScript: If a font
request is made for a PostScript font that is
not available, we will
subsitute your selection with one.
