Secondary Mathematics

The mathematics program provides opportunities for all students to explore and investigate concepts and relationships through a broad range of mathematical experiences.  The long range goals for students are that they:

bulletDevelop positive and enthusiastic attitudes towards mathematics.
bulletLearn to reason mathematically in their lives.
bulletUse mathematics as a form of communication.
bulletBecome confident of their mathematical abilities.
bulletBecome mathematical problem solvers.
bulletLearn to value mathematics as a useful, creative tool.
bulletBecome critical thinkers.

The objectives of the Alachua County Schools reflect the current emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking skills, estimation, measurement, number sense, geometry and spatial sense, algebraic thinking, and data analysis and probability.  These objectives are in support of the Florida Sunshine State Standards and the National Standards for Mathematics Instruction.
