Secondary Mathematics
|
The
mathematics program provides opportunities for
all students to explore and investigate concepts and relationships
through a broad range of mathematical experiences. The long
range goals for students are that they:
 | Develop
positive and enthusiastic attitudes towards mathematics.
|
 | Learn to
reason mathematically in their lives. |
 | Use
mathematics as a form of communication. |
 | Become
confident of their mathematical abilities. |
 | Become
mathematical problem solvers. |
 | Learn to
value mathematics as a useful, creative tool. |
 | Become
critical thinkers. |
The
objectives of the Alachua County Schools reflect the current
emphasis on problem-solving, critical thinking skills, estimation,
measurement, number sense, geometry and spatial sense, algebraic
thinking, and data analysis and probability. These objectives
are in support of the Florida Sunshine State Standards and the
National Standards for Mathematics Instruction.
