MOBILE INSTRUCTIONAL
TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY
HAS MANY FUNCTIONS

A high-tech laboratory that can be shared by schools to provide students with hands-on experience with the data gathering, networking, and other techniques vital to their future careers in the 21st Century.

A teacher training center that can be moved to any site in the district to train teachers in the use of this new technology.

A demonstration and research site for the development and testing of ultra-media instructional modules.

A high-tech classroom that can demonstrate the value, efficiency, and effectiveness of interactive teaching strategies while serving 180 students per school day at any location in the district. The instructional system is designed to be state-of-the-art, flexible and generic. It is effective with elementary through university-level students and can also be used for on-site training in business and industry.

The unit can be made available to any agency or organization anywhere on a cost recovery basis.

The instructional system was envisioned by David A. Edwards, Ph.D., Director of Vocational Education, and was substantially aided in the design by James C. Moffett, Director of Instructional Technology and Bill Atwater, Facilities Manager.

Dr. Edwards will always be deeply indebted to the school board members who served during the 1993/94 school year and believed in promoting innovation in education and supported the creation of the Mobile Instructional Technology Laboratory.

Multi-media interactive computer instruction transforms students from passive recipients of information into active participants in their own learning process.

Through the use of multi-media, interactive video and individualized computer-assisted instruction, the
Mobile Instructional Technology Laboratory prepares students for the information age of the 21st Century.

The Mobile Instructional Technology Laboratory system can use either Ethernet or token ring as the communication gateway and carries its own signal amplification equipment, so distance to communication hookups is no problem. All of its computer stations have access to the Internet. The tractor has a generator for supplying electricity for the air conditioning, lights and electronic equipment.

The laboratory can be used as a television production studio if hooked into a network and can broadcast live or recorded television programs. It has a surround sound system inside as well as an exterior sound system. Students can capture video and audio at any station as well as live images and sound with cameras and microphones which are available at each student station. We use Link-Way-Live with an updated version of Super Link as the multimedia authoring tool for student-and teacher-created multimedia presentations.

The student and teacher stations can automatically access a bank of video disk players, VCR's and CD players located in the equipment room in the unit.

Software ranges from simple Excel to sophisticated Virtual Reality software and includes a computer based academic learning system by Advanced Learning System. All student stations can be set up for real time video and audio telecommunications. There are many examples of interactive computer-aided multimedia instructional programs for teachers of programs for preschool through university level education in all academic areas.
