Alarm Procedure

Please review the video "School Security:  Preventing False Alarms"
which is located at each facility site.

Security Codes
  1. Any person approved by the principal who will be opening/closing a facility/school or entering after hours will be required to have a key to their area and a security code. Security codes are issued by the District Security Chief. Keys are issued by the work site principal.
  2. The District Security Chief, through the Staff Attorney's Office, will be the only person to issue security codes. The monitoring company does not issue codes.
  3. To have a security code issued, the principal or designee will do the following:

Fill out the form "Request for New Security Code" (All blocks must be filled in.)
E-mail Form (e-mail as an attachment to security@sbac.edu)
Hard Copy Form (print and fill out, send to the Staff Attorney's Office at the Kirby-Smith Center)

The code will be issued and activated by the monitoring company.

Once the security code is issued, the Staff Attorney's Office will send an envelope to the principal. Inside that envelope will be a sealed envelope with the recipient name on the envelope. Inside that envelope will be an informational letter and a card with the telephone number to be called to cancel an alarm and the security code.

The principal will hand deliver the sealed envelope to the recipient.

Note:  This is done as a security measure where the principal will be the only party to approve a security code and will also be the party which will deliver that code.

  4. Do not write your name or any other identification (site location, directions, etc.) on the card, which has your security code on it.
  5. Do not give your security code to anyone.
  6. If an employee departs the school system for any reason (resign, retires, is terminated), who has a security code, it is the principals responsibility to go to the above web site and notify the Staff Attorney's Office within twenty-four hours.
  7. The Staff Attorney's Office will contact the monitoring company who will deactivate the security code within twenty-four hours.

There are three models of ITI alarms keypads in our district. They are the SCV, the SCV-Special and the Concord. They all operate similar to arm, disarm, and to bypass a problem.

Alarm Is Ringing And You Need To Cancel The Alarm
  1. Go to the nearest telephone and dial alarm monitoring company at 331-9032. The telephone number is located on your security card that has your security code on it. Additionally, stickers have been sent to all facilities for the placement of the number on telephones and on the keypad.

  2. Give monitoring company your location and security code. Tell them to cancel any law enforcement response.

Maintenance Problem
  1. Facilities deals with the installation, maintenance of your alarm systems
  2. The District Security Chief, through the Staff Attorney's Office deals only with the monitoring of the alarms.
  3. If you have any type of equipment problem or failure, contact fill out a maintenance request and send to facilities.
