SADD Message

The purpose of just4teens is to provide 24-hour online assistance for teens. just4teens gives you a safe and fun website environment to help you find answers, advice, and resources to successfully trek through the difficult teenage years.

Purpose
The purpose of S.F.H.S. SADD is to assist middle school and high school students encourage safe, healthy, and substance-free lifestyles by creating clubs in their schools that support and promote positive decision making.

S.F.H.S. SADD Chapter
Peer pressure has been proven to affect the type of decisions teens make, and S.F.H.S. SADD chapters are a means of providing positive peer pressure and support to those teens looking for a group that share similar ideals.

The spotlight of media, school, and parental attention is often focused on students who make destructive decisions. S.F.H.S. SADD chapter puts the focus of attention on those students who make positive and healthy choices.

S.F.H.S. SADD educates students, parents, and others in the community concerning the problems of underage drinking, drinking and driving, as well as many other issues facing youth today. S.F.H.S. SADD chapters present awareness programs on issues ranging from traffic safety to violence and provide education regarding the many problems these issues cause for the local, state, and national levels.

SADD promotes a No-Use message - no alcohol, tobacco, or illegal substances—through positive peer pressure, support, and activism.

S.F.H.S. SADD works in cooperation with many state agencies, local school districts, law enforcement agencies, and many other state and community based organizations. The collaboration and cooperation between the many state and community based organizations enhances the “Triangle of Caring” which is comprised of school, home, and community.

Santa Fe High School has a long tradition of being a strong SADD chapter. We are also the SWAT chapter for SFHS. This school year is no different. Our hard working, dedicated members plan to be more active than ever before. We would like to involve other area schools and the community. We wish to spread our message of "no tolerance" to everyone. We have already had two very successful club meetings. We have a wonderful club, faculty, and sponsor. Collectively we would like to get as much of the community involved in saving lives as possible.

In the past five years, the alcohol related deaths on average in Alachua County was 13.8. Santa Fe High School's S.A.D.D. chapter is trying to send a message out to their students about when these DUI's occur. We are trying to make our student body aware by implementing two things, DUI awareness and seat belt safety. During the year, the sheriff's office will do a seat belt check at the entrance of the school. S.A.D.D. has asked the sheriff's office if they could do it again, this time with a warning from them. S.A.D.D. will hold up seat belt awareness signs for two days as parents and students entered the school. On the third day, the unknowingly parents and students will run into another seat belt check by the sheriff's office. We are not just trying to reach the student body, but the whole community. To do this, we would like to put DUI's signs on the highways.

Some other popular activities our chapter does are to participate in Prom Promise, Ghost Out, Seat Belt Safety Week, Teacher Appreciation Week, Great American Smoke Out, Lights on for Life, American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and National Kick Butts Day. As you can see, we have a very busy year planned. If you have any questions about our activities or on how you can become involved, feel free to call Santa Fe High School at 462-1125 and ask for Brenda Joyner. Thanks for your help and remember, together we can make a difference.

S.F.H.S. SADD Chapter Campaigns
FL SADD Chapters sponsor awareness campaigns at sporting events, theatrical productions, and other sponsored activities at their schools. These campaigns succeed in making their fellow students, faculty, parents and community aware of the problems associated with underage drinking, drinking and driving, and many other relevant issues to their community.

The S.F.H.S. SADD office provides free programming materials to SADD members. These materials include Contracts for Life, Ghost Out materials, Parent Brochures, Holiday Break materials and other SADD products, as they are available.

SADD Members It's Your Turn!

SADD chapters have always worked toward educating the schools and community and creating awareness around impaired driving. Since we believe everyone should have a hand in helping save lives, FLORIDA SADD has created a new campaign entitled, "It’s Your Turn…" to let everyone know it’s their turn to do something about it.

This campaign should be used to promote responsible driving by helping to keep impaired drivers off the road. More young people die each year because of traffic accidents and crashes than anything else. FLORIDA SADD hopes you will use this campaign to encourage young drivers to never drive impaired and to help keep impaired drivers off our roads.
