Welcome to the Safe and Drug-Free schools page. The Safe and Drug-Free Schools (SDFS) grant is a federal entitlement grant. This grant provides for curriculum materials and teacher training to keep our students in Alachua County informed about the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD). The grant also provides schools with violence prevention curricula. The goal of  the SDFS program is to increase student achievement by reducing referrals. The Safe and Drug-Free Schools grant provides teachers and parents with resources to keep our children safe and drug-free.

All Alachua County Schools implement the
ABC Program
Alachua Schools Build Character

Each month every Alachua County School, K-12, emphasizes the same character trait.  During September, for example, Respect:  treating others with high regard, becomes a part of a school-wide emphasis.

All students should know what each of these character traits "feels like" and "sounds like" as they interact with their peers and teachers each day.  Our goal is to promote conflict-free classrooms, increase student performance, and emphasize at school what many parents are teaching at home.

P
lease visit our programs to obtain information about drug prevention, violence prevention, and ABC curricula currently being used in Alachua County Schools.

Together we can help keep our children -- our future -- safe and drug-free.
