Good Citizenship
by Ashley Reichenbach
A good citizen should display many values such as
responsibility, courtesy and friendliness.
Responsibility is a very important value in good
citizenship. Being responsible includes being reliable and
trustworthy. When you are given household chores or school assignments
to do, you should do them. You should also try to do them without
reminders. By doing your chores you are helping your family. By
doing your assignments you are becoming a good student. A friend
should be trustworthy. If you have a friend that is in need of your
help, they should be able to count on you to support them. When you
help a friend, one day they might do the same for you or somebody else.
Being courteous is essential to being a good citizen.
To be courteous you should try to be considerate and polite to everybody
around you. When you are around others that appear upset or frustrated
you should be conscious of their feelings and try to help them. As
simple as manners may seem, they may leave a lasting impression on people
around you. You should try to use good manners always and everywhere.
Imagine how wonderful the world would be if everyone used good manners!
Displaying friendliness is a significant part of good
citizenship. To be a friendly person you should be kind and caring to
all those around you. You can be kind to others by doing chores for
them, saying nice things, encouraging them and by being a friend to them.
You should try to display a pleasant attitude at all times. Friends
should care for each other in the happy times and in the sad times.
You can show that you care by trying to cheer people up, by listening to
what people have to say and by offering to help others. When you are
kind and caring to others now it might become natural for you and others to
do it always in the future.
Good citizenship includes responsibility, courtesy, and
friendliness, which can help others and me, now and in the future.

I was honored to find out that my class had
voted me as citizen of the year. While I try to be a good citizen, I
see others in my class who are even better than me. I think everyone
has their own special way of showing good citizenship.
Being a good citizen means that you're not always the
most popular in the class, but you are someone who is always there for
people who need your help. Even though some people don't show good
citizenship, if they are around good citizens long enough they might become
a good citizen. And then they can become Citizen of the Month or
Citizen of the Year.
There is more than one way to be a good citizen. Here
are some ways and examples to show good citizenship. Reaching out to a
new student when no one else will. Because how would you feel if you
moved to a new city and all the kids at the school knew each other and you
were the outsider. Another way to demonstrate good citizenship is by
setting good examples in class or out of class. Following directions
and paying attention in class and showing respect to teachers and other
pupils.
You can continue to show good citizenship now and in
the future by never stopping what good behavior you are doing now no matter
what your friends might say to you. One time I was holding a door open
for other teachers and pupils even though it was not my patrol post. A
friend asked me why I kept holding the door open and said that I don't have
to do it all the time. I told them that I hold it open because it is
respectful and you should do it not just for your friends or people you
know, but for everyone. It is not always easy to be a good citizen.
Sometimes you have people who are rude to you, but you have to be nice to
everyone no matter what.
I was so shocked that my class voted me Citizen of the
Year. I want to thank them for all they have shown me. I would
also like to congratulate the other citizens of the year, some who I know
are my friends because the more good citizens there are, the better the
world will be.
What Does
It Mean to be a Good Citizen?
by Taylor Green
Being a
good citizen doesn't just mean obeying the rules because you're obligated to
but because you know it's the right thing to do. Many people have
different opinions of what a good citizen is. Here are my thoughts.
I think being a good citizen means that you are willing
and able to show empathy, kindness, and respect voluntarily. You help
to clean up the earth or your room without being asked to (I'm still working
on that one :) ). Being there for someone if they are new to your
school or if they've suffered a loss in there family.
Of course, it's extremely important to show respect for
you parents, teachers, peers, everyone really. The definition of
respect is to show high regard and consideration for someone or something.
I consider that a duty of each day.
Not only is it important to do things for others,
it's also important to accomplish things for yourself like making an A+ on a
really hard test.
So, if your mom ever asks you to do a task, just do it.
If you see a new student that is lost, help
them. It's part of what being a good citizen is all about.

Being an outstanding citizen can mean
different things to different people. There's many ways to demonstrate
good citizenship. And usually citizens who show they care at a young
age will continue to be caring citizens in the future too.
I think that being a good citizen means to be kind and
caring to not just your friends but to EVERYONE you meet! One time
when I was in the mall I picked up a credit card a woman had dropped out of
her pocket and caught up with her to give it back. She was thanking me
and very happy and offered to give me a dollar but I said no thank you.
I felt good just doing the right thing. Compliments can never hurt
anyone. Even just having a positive attitude can help you be
successful in life. Being friendly to people will bring you more
smiles then you could ever count, one thing is for sure you'll always have
someone there to smile back at you. Volunteering is a meaningful way
to be a good citizen too. Offering to pitch in when help is needed or
just offering is there anything I can do, can show you really care.
Treating others as you would like to be treated and having a positive
attitude will show others what it means to be a good citizen.
There's also many ways to demonstrate good citizenship.
Like helping out both at home and where you work or go to school. One
time my neighborhood friend, Morgan, and I helped our neighbor look for
their dog who had gotten out of their fence. She was glad we were able
to get Rosey back home safely. My classmate, Andrea and I picked up
trash around the school without anyone asking us to. But these are not
the only ways to demonstrate good citizenship; honestly I think being kind
to EVERYONE is the number one way to demonstrate you are a caring citizen.
I think that if you go to school, be a normal kid, enjoy learning, and try
to be a good friend to everyone that is all you need to become a good
citizen. You don't have to be popular, just be who you truly are and
don't let words bring you down. Follow your dreams they'll take you
far enough.
Not just being a good citizen now is wonderful but you
should continue being a caring citizen in the future too. You could
become president if you really wanted to, just listen to your heart and
always be the best that you can be. Always be a citizen who cares.
Being an awesome citizen means many things to different
people. I think that being true to yourself, being kind to others and
continuing to be a caring citizen through life will help you be a success at
whatever you want to do. Follow your dreams!
Citizen of the Year Essay

Do you know what
this Citizen of the Month program is all about? This program is to
show and reward students that have shown good citizenship to others.
This program is also to point out students that have shown consideration for
others. There are many different ways to show consideration for
others. For example, once a woman in Wal-Mart needed something from a
shelf just out of her reach. The store clerks were all busy at the
moment I guess, so I went over and got whatever it was off the shelf and
gave it to her. She thanked me so much, and it feels good to be
thanked. It also feels good when your up on that stage in the
cafeteria getting that certificate in front of the whole fifth grade.
( I should know, I was citizen of the month once.) There are all sorts
of ways you can become Citizen of the Month. All you have to do is go
and find them.
Here is how I, and anyone else, can tell everyone how
to be good citizens, too. Show them. Don't try and tell everyone
around you how to be good citizens. (It would take forever.) Do
you know why I say show them? 'Because actions speak louder than
words'. My teacher says that almost everyday! I know this quote
is true from my own experience. By being a good citizen you show
others how to be good citizens, too. Oh! And don't just be a
good citizen today; be a good citizen forever! Because nothing feels
better then helping someone else!
What is your motivation to be Citizen of the Month?
Is it trying to get attention? Is it to show the school how good of a
student you are? Or, do you not know why? Do you know why you
need to be a good citizen? Well, when I was picked Citizen of the
Month I didn't know why I was picked. Just like now. I don't
know why I was picked out of a whole wonderful class to be a candidate in
the fifth grade to be Citizen of the Year. The reason I don't know is
because I was being myself.
To be the greatest citizen you have to be a servant to
everyone around you. A servant is a person who looks for ways to
please his or her master. A servant is a citizen anyone can be now and
in the future. You have to serve your parents, teachers, sisters and
brothers. So look for their favorite things to do or read or any other
thing.
Remember Citizen of the Year is to point out students
the teachers recognized being good citizens throughout the year. And
also don't forget there are many different ways to be a good citizen,
whether it's helping a lady across the street or helping your mom at home.
But also remember, the best way to be a great citizen is to be a servant to
your leaders. 'Actions speak louder than words' remember that, too.
And if you want to be the best citizen then I told you how to be, so now go
and use this information to make the world a better place. |
