2005/2006
Fundraisers
Kathryn
Beich:
This is our fall fundraiser.
We are not sure if we will be continuing with this fundraiser next
year. We are looking at other options. If you have any
input, please contact Gina Cox
(GinaSS@aol.com or 395-6456) with any suggestions.
Silent
Auction:
The auction was
held in December. This fundraiser is a lot of fun, and
combined with the Talent Show was a great night. If you would
like to help out with this fundraiser next year, please contact
anyone on the PTA or Rana Schafer (371-3689).
Box Tops:
Though all the
contests are over, don't forget to continue to collect your box tops
over the summer! Also, continue to log on to
www.boxtops4education.com
and click on the Booster club link to help earn money for our
school. If you do any ordering on-line, you can just as easily
do it though this website and bring in more money to our school! If you have any questions, please
contact Jody Peeling (335-8687). Also.. it is SO
helpful if you PLEASE trim the edges and place the box tops into
plastic snack bags (50 to a bag), and write 50 on them. This
would be a great project for you child(ren)! Thanks so very
much!!!
Campbell's
Labels:
Keep collecting
those Campbell Soup labels. Return to your child(ren)'s teacher or
to the Talbot Office. Any questions, contact Patty Sjoden (377-5262).
2005/2006 Services
Yearbook:
Each
year a yearbook is created so all the students can remember their
time at Talbot Elementary. As usual, the student's and staff's
school photos are placed within the book, but additional photos of
events and happenings throughout the year are included. The
Yearbook has now been completed, and will be coming soon!
If you haven't purchased on yet, there will be a few extras in the
office for the price of $30.00.
Carnival:
The
Spring Carnival has been scheduled for Friday, April 28th. If you
wish to volunteer for this event and have not done so yet, either
contact your child's Carnival Booth Parent, or contact De
Miller-Sellers 388-9445.
Book fair:
The
Spring Scholastic Book Fair will take place the week of March 13-17.
The book fair hours are daily from
8:00a.m. - 2:00p.m. (12:45p.m. on Wednesday) in the 2nd grade centrum.
We are trying something a little different this time. We will
be holding TWO family evening events! The family evenings will
be on Tuesday, March 14, and Thursday, March 16 from 5 - 7pm.
This will give parents, who cannot come during the day, a chance to
come before the selections become more limited. Book Fair
purchases may be made with cash, credit card, or check (made payable
to Talbot PTA). All profits from the Book Fair will go toward
our school library.
If you have
questions, or would like to volunteer to help set-up, take down,
advertise, and/or work at the Book Fair, please contact Kathy Robinson
(372-6897) or Betty Osfield (373-7273 or
betty.fagundes@att.net )
International Fair:
Talbot's annual International Fair was held during International
Education Week, November 14th-18th. If you have never come to
this wonderful event, please try to come next year!! If you or your family have
lived in another country, visited another country, or have
researched another country, please consider providing a display for
our International Fair next year. Displays can include pictures, food,
clothing, videos, currency, artwork, crafts, anything that will help
our children and families learn more about your country and
culture.
We also
like to provide dinner entertainment. We are always looking for volunteers (we would love to have children!) to provide
a dance, song, or play an instrument that highlights another country
for our dinner entertainment.
This is always
a popular and fun family event, and a great way for our children to
learn about the wonderful diversity at Talbot and our world. If you
are interested in participating next year or have questions about
this event, please contact Kathy Robinson (372-6897) or Kelly
Langston (376-3416).
Holiday
Baskets:
Holiday Baskets
are
created for Thanksgiving and distributed to those families in need
the week of Thanksgiving. Boxes are placed throughout
Talbot elementary on November 1st for donations of non-perishable
items. Each grade level is asked to donate certain items. Be
looking for a flyer to come home with your child(ren) the 1st of
November. If you would like to help out with this worthy
cause, please contact Cindy Naranjo (376-1889) or Michelle Ropp
(491-0984).
Tiger Trot:
Each
year prior to the start of the Fitness Fair, students are given the
opportunity to complete a one mile run (not quite!). If you
would like to help out with next year's Tiger Trot, please contact
Janice Shultz (378-6277).
Fitness Fair: The
Fitness and Nutrition Fair took place on February 25th. This
was an awesome event with lots of fitness related activities, from
Tennis and Fencing to Obstacle Courses. We had a lot of
information on good nutrition as well as some fun nutritious games
and snacks! If
you have any ideas/suggestions for next year, or would like to
help out in the planning for next year, please
contact Jackie Landis-Ferber
(376-7431 or corjac612@aol.com).
PTA Membership
Please consider
joining the PTA. This is a great way to help our school raise
funds for things that we normally wouldn't have the money for!
If you didn't know, Talbot being a non-Title1 school, we do not get
a lot of funding for things like computers and other things that the
school needs. At the first PTA meeting of the year, Dr.
Colvin, presents a "Wish List" to the PTA. It usually totals
$15000 - $20000. For the 2005/2006 year, the wish list included
10,000 for new computers and 8,000 for new playground equipment.
Most of the money raised by the PTA goes DIRECTLY to the school,
with a small amount going to administrative costs to cover things
like the printing of the directory, the printing of the newlsetter,
etc. All the accounting of the funds raised by the PTA are
given by the treasurer at the monthly PTA meeting (normally held the
second Tuesday of the month). Also... YOU DO NOT HAVE TO ATTEND
MEETINGS IF YOU JOIN THE PTA!! We would love for you to come
and add your input, but NEVER feel obligated to come to the
meetings!
Applications:
At
the beginning of the year the PTA membership and PAWS directory
application will come home with the students. These forms may
also be found in the office. With you paid membership you
receive the PAWS Student Directory FREE! If you have any questions
or comments, Please contact Betty Osfield (373-7273 or
betty.fagundes@att.net).
PAWS:
The PAWS Directory is
a handy book with Phone numbers Addresses & Wonderful Stuff!
There are class listings, the names/addresses of students, school
calendar of events, and other useful information. The
directory is created from the school boards data base. On the
Directory application form, you have the option to be EXCLUDED from
the directory. If you DO NOT check this option, the student's
name, address, and phone number will be listed in the directory.
The directory for the 2005/2006 year have already been printed.
If you would like one, there are a few left and can be purchased in
the office for the price of $4.00! If your information if
incorrect in the directory, please fill out the form at the front of
the book and turn it into the office, or contact Betty Osfield via
e-mail betty.fagundes@att.net

your Talbot T-shirts and show your school spirit! Tuesdays are

school spirit!! These shirts are

days a week the marquee is changed with important information about
what is going on at Talbot for the day/week. If a Talbot event
is coming up and should be posted, please contact the office to have
something added. There is a list kept of what is going up on
the marquee for the year, and must be approved by Dr. Colvin before
it can be put up. If you would like to help out with the
marquee, or have any questions, please contact Allison Cunningham
(335-8787) or Cathe Kantner (375-8872).
