Welcome to Myra Terwilliger Elementary School. We are looking forward to a wonderful 2010-2011 school year.

A Message from our Principal

Spring is an exciting time of year at Terwilliger Elementary. We have many special events planned and a tremendous amount of learning still ahead. It is amazing how much a child can progress academically in these last few months of school. Please continue to support our school efforts at home. When you continue to emphasize the importance of reading, doing homework, and arriving to school on time the children are far more likely to put forth their best effort during school hours.

Please note the calendar of events provided in this newsletter. The school carnival takes place Friday, April 23rd. Our fabulous PTA organizes this fun-filled evening that not only provides great family entertainment, but continues to be a large fundraiser for the school. Please contact your child’s teacher if you are available to assist with the carnival in any way.

To ensure everyone is safe right up to the end of school, please keep the following in mind:
When dropping children off at school in the morning, please pull as far forward as possible. An adult will be nearby to see your child safely on to the campus. This also prevents traffic back-up on 62nd Street.

When picking children up in the afternoon, make sure to drive through the car circle. When children are encouraged by parents to meet them in the rear parking lot, there is no supervision and no one to help them through traffic. Picking up by way of rear parking lot is absolutely not permitted. The same rule is in place for drop off in the morning. This is only to be done by way of front car circle where adults are supervising.

In order to help you move through the car circle in a timely fashion, make sure to abide by the signage stating “No left turns” when exiting the car circle. This causes traffic back up and slows the entire process. Also, when entering the car circle please be considerate of parents that must turn left from 62nd Street. These cars require courteous drivers that are turning right to pause and allow them to turn in to the car circle.

The faculty and staff here at Terwilliger are excited about the plans we have for the months that remain in this school year. If you have any questions or concerns, please call. Your continued support of the school is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!
