Community involvement in our public school system is an integral part of our school system.  Alachua County's parents, college students, retirees, interested citizens, community and service organizations as well as businesses donate their time and talents to public schools as:

School Volunteer Program Statistics for 2008-2009

More than 19,210 volunteers gave over 688,940 documented hours of service to 42 schools and centers.

Over 380 local businesses & organizations served as Partners in Education, providing resources to our schools valued at over $2.4 million.

Forty-three Alachua County schools received the State of Florida Golden School Award for outstanding community involvement.

Two schools qualified as "Five-Star Schools" for exemplary community involvement.

Approximately 550 college mentors were paired with at-risk students in 20 schools, serving as positive role models and encouraging friends.

The Community Resource Volunteer Program provided more than 1,040 enrichment programs in classrooms throughout the school district.

More than 1,000 volunteers served as mentors.

Over 5,000 college students were placed as volunteers in the public schools, working one-on-one with children needing individual help.
