Miss Fuchs was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, attended the University of Memphis, and earned a degree in education. She lived briefly in Bloomington, Indiana. She has lived in Gainesville since 1983.

Miss Fuchs started teaching in 1972 and has taught all grades and ages. She is certified in elementary, middle school math and science, media, and high school biology. Her early years of teaching were spent in middle grades teaching math and science in Indiana. In Alachua County, Miss Fuchs taught math at the ACCEPT (Alachua County Continuing Education for Pregnant Teens) Program before coming to Waldo. She began teaching at Waldo Community School in the Fall of 1990. While at Waldo School she has taught all grades K-6 in varying programs. Miss Fuchs has been the media specialist at Waldo Community School since the beginning of the 2006-07 school year.
