Waldo Community School

Melissa Montgomery entered the
School Board of Alachua County in 1999 with 12 years of early childhood teaching
experience in the Florida Public school system. After earning her teaching
degree from the University of Florida in 1986, she taught kindergarten and first
grade with the Putnam County School District. During her tenure with Putnam
County, she earned her Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from the
University of North Florida. Her training in the Success for All and Reading
Roots programs, Reading Mastery, the Ginn Reading Series, and Writing to Read
has led to a a broad range of teaching strategies to draw upon. In addition, her
training in the Chicago Math program correlates with the program components in
Waldo Community School's current mathematics program.
Mrs. Montgomery is a highly focused teacher with a serious dedication to student
achievement. Her eclectic teaching style facilitates opportunities for
successful learning, while guiding students into becoming independent problem
solvers and insightful thinkers. She believes the early childhood years are
critical to a strong foundation for educational success throughout the learner's
lifetime.
