Dear Parents,

On Tuesday, September 7, we look forward tow welcoming you to Open House and our first PTA meeting.  The PTA meeting is from 6:00 – 6:30 PM.  Pizza and drinks will be available for purchase.  Open House is from 6:30 – 7:30 PM.  This evening will give you an opportunity to meet teachers, see the classroom, and here about the grade level curriculum.  For Kindergarten parents, you will have an opportunity to meet and welcome our newest faculty addition, Ms. Young.  Ms. Young will take over a Kindergarten classroom next week.  I know you will enjoy meeting her.  She is a wonderful addition to our outstanding faculty.

Next week our fifth graders will head out to Camp Crystal for three days of camping and learning.  What fun they will have!  Camp Crystal is the School Board’s own camp and provides hands-on lessons for boys and girls in ecology, environmental studies, and general science.  The fifth graders will leave on Wednesday, September 8 and return to school on Friday, September 10.

Second graders will also go to Camp Crystal for a one-day field trip.  Their trip is scheduled for Tuesday, September 7 during school hours.  We know they will enjoy their trip, too.

Please remember we cannot have students on campus before 7:20 AM.  The only exception is our Safety Patrols who are allowed on campus with Coach Peterson for their morning meeting.  Remember, too, that Wednesday’s are early days all year long.  School dismisses on Wednesday’s at 12:30.  We expect parents to pick up students at that time.  Remind yourselves!  Don’t forget!  Thanks so much.

Our wonderful school continues to grow and grow!  Right now our school enrollment is 694 students!  In addition to the new Kindergarten classroom, we will also be adding a fourth-fifth grade combination class.  First, though, we have to find an excellent teacher.  We’ll be looking hard for just the right person to join our faculty.  Remember these additional teachers and classrooms are in response to the class size amendment which stipulates that primary classes must be no more than eighteen students and intermediate classes no more than twenty-two students.

The Academic Focus for next week is Compare and Contrast in Reading and Geometry in Mathematics.  Thanks for your help with these important FCAT skills.

No school on Monday, September 6.  It’s Labor Day.

After today, my weekly letter to you will only be posted online at our school website www.sbac.edu/~wiles/.  Click on Newsletter and you’ll be all set.  We will print a few copies for each classroom for students whose homes are without internet access.

Have a great week-end!  See everybody on Tuesday, September 7 at 7:45.

Sincerely,

Barbara Buys
