4.      Annual Audit of the Alachua County Public Schools Foundation  (Ward)

 

The annual audit report for the Alachua County Public Schools Foundation for the year ending June 30, 2008, has been prepared.  The Foundation is considered a component unit of the District and their audit report is required to be approved by the Board and entered into public record.

 

5.      2008-2009 Annual Equity Update  (Calsam)

 

The report describes the participation of students in Grade 8 Algebra I, Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Cambridge programs (grades 9-12), Dual Enrollment grades 9-12), Honors courses (grades 9-12) and Level 3 Courses (grades 9-12).  The report also evaluates gender equity in athletic programs, including corrective action plans for any school not in compliance.

7.            Bus Use Agreement  (Harrison)

 

A bus use agreement has been prepared with the University of Florida, acting for and on behalf of the Society of Women Engineers, for the eSWAMP Day event on Saturday, August 29, 2009.

 

8.            Tech Prep Articulation Agreement  (Edwards)

 

Students who complete a Career Pathways articulated program in career and technical education are eligible to receive advanced credit standing at Santa Fe College on the basis of program completion and successful completion of a competency exam.  The agreements are for the Academy of Health Professions and the Academy of Automotive Technology.  Students will be allowed to earn up to 15 college credits.

 

9.            Contract for Educational Services with the Gainesville Wilderness Institute  (Hall)

 

This contract provides educational services to youth enrolled or remanded to the Gainesville Wilderness Institute.

 

10.        Contract for Educational Services with the PACE Center for Girls  (Hall)

 

This contract provides educational alternative programs for eligible students at the PACE Center for Girls, Inc., enrolled or remanded to the program.

 

11.        Title I, Part C—Migrant Education Program  (Caudle/Norris)

 

A proposal has been prepared for submission to the Florida Department of Education for the Title I, Part C Migrant Education Program.  This program helps state and local education agencies to remove barriers to school enrollment, attendance, and academic achievement for children of migrant workers so that they have access to the same appropriate public education, including preschool education, provided to other children.  The Alachua Multi-County migrant Education Program serves as the host for surrounding districts in the north Florida area.  A total of $814,119 is requested.

 

12.        Contract with Putnam County School Board and NEFEC for ISRD  (Caudle)

 

A contract has been prepared with the Putnam County School Board, on behalf of the North East Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC), for the purpose of operating an Institute for Small and Rural Districts.  The purpose of the institute is to assist thirty-four member school districts by conducting work sessions to address key state and federal initiatives impacting students with disabilities.  The institute also provides training for school-based administrators; conducts work sessions for ESE administrators in order to address legal issues, reading, programming, and implementation of services for students with disabilities; and provides statewide and regional training in the area of parent involvement, compliance, and data analysis.

 

13.        Alachua County School Resource Deputy Program  (Caudle)

 

An agreement has been prepared with the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office (ASO) for the continuation of the School Resource Deputy Program.  This is an agreement whereby the ASO will provide 16 School Resource Deputies to local schools and centers during the 2009-2010 school year.  Up to $417,657 will be paid by Alachua County Public Schools to ASO for these 16 deputies to provide public safety, crime prevention, and intervention education programs at the schools.  An additional amount, up to $6,000 for instructional materials and School Resource Deputy training, may be paid (provided materials and training is approved by the District).

 

14.        Memorandum of Agreement with the Alachua County Health Department  (Black)

 

A Memorandum of Agreement has been prepared with the Alachua County Health Department which will provide on-site school health services for 14 schools @ 34-40 hours per week.

 

G.    ACTION ITEMS

 

1.         Revisions to the 2009-2010 Code of Student Conduct—Second Reading  (Black)

 

A public hearing was held on July 21, 2009, on revisions to the 2009-2010 Code of Student Conduct.

 

RECOMMENDED ACTION:      The Superintendent recommends that the School Board approve the revisions to the 2009-2010 Code of Student Conduct, as presented.
