  • Summer School

    Summer school for eligible elementary school students will run from June 3-25, Mondays through Thursdays. Instruction will be delivered live online each day, although paper packets will also be available for families who need them. Schools have already reached out to families whose children are recommended for summer school. Families can contact their child’s school for more information.

    Credit retrieval programs are available to some middle and high school students this summer to help keep them on track toward graduation. More information on these programs are also available from the schools.

    Summer Bridge Activities

    The district has created a website with links to a wide variety of ‘Summer Bridge Activities’ to keep students at all grade levels engaged in learning through the summer. The site includes recommended reading lists, skill-building activities in a wide variety of subjects and age-appropriate virtual field trips, live events, and other activities.     Technical Assistance

    Technical assistance is also available for families having trouble logging into online resources, such as Google Classroom, myPortal, etc. and for those who need help using or signing onto Family Access. Families can visit the Technical Support page or contact the Call Center at (352) 955-7051. We ask that those calling the phone number be patient as there are times when call volume is heavy.

    Schools are making devices available for families that need them. If you are interested in receiving a device, please contact your school.

    Obviously many families have questions about the impact of the COVID-19 virus and the closing of schools on their students. We've provided answers to the most commonly-asked questions here. We'll keep updating this document as new information becomes available.

School Bus WiFi

  • To support students without internet access, Alachua County Public Schools is maintaining its School Bus WiFi program through June 30th.  School buses equipped with free ‘hot spots’ are located throughout the county. Sites and schedules are available here.

    Students within about 150 to 200 feet of the bus, either at home or in a vehicle, can access the network school bus wifi. A password is not needed, but the district is requesting that people limit the use of the network for distance learning only.

    Students and their families are reminded to maintain social distancing when accessing the program. NO supervision will be provided, and children should NOT be left unattended at the sites.

     

Meals & Meal Site Information

  • Free Summer Meals

    Beginning June 1st and continuing through the summer, the district’s free grab & go meals distribution will be available Mondays through Thursdays. Meals for all seven days of the week will be provided, with distribution spread throughout the week.

    Any child 18 years old and younger can receive a free breakfast and lunch at one of 70 locations, including bus stops, through the Free Summer Meals program.  The department’s food truck will also visit three neighborhoods, including Hidden Oaks, Majestic Oaks and the SWAG Family Resource Center this summer.

    The Summer Meals Program, funded by the federal government, is open to any child regardless of family income. Children do not have to be enrolled at a particular school or program to receive meals. They also do not have to be eligible for free and reduced price meals during the regular school year to take advantage of the program.

School Board Meetings

  • To protect the health and well-being of School Board members, staff, students and the public and in keeping with the Governor’s Executive Order of March 20, School Board meetings will be held virtually during the COVID 19 pandemic.

    Agendas for meetings will continue to be posted here.

    Citizens can submit their input through email at issues@gm.sbac.edu by 12 noon on the day of the meeting. Those who prefer not to use email may go to the School Board meeting room located at the District Office at 620 E. University Avenue to offer their input. The Board members will not be physically located in the room but will be able to see and hear the speakers.  Finally, those who wish to comment on an agenda item can call 352-955-7613 during the meeting, and those who wish to provide citizen input on non-agenda items can call 352-955-7544 during the meeting as well.

    To maintain social distancing, the number of people in the Board room will be strictly limited, and all will have their temperatures taken before entering.
