Academy of Agribusiness

  • Agriculture is a multibillion dollar industry that is becoming increasingly more technical and business oriented. According to AgCareers.com, "within the last 20 years, agriculture has expanded and become so diverse, giving job seekers a wide variety of careers to choose from. There are significant jobs in production, economics, marketing, agribusiness, technology, sales, finance, microbiology, communications, and much more." Read more here.

    Agriculture education can begin at Hawthorne High School and continue at a vocational center, a community college, or university.

    Magnet Requirements: 

    • 2.5 GPA
    • No more than 10 unexcused absences
    • No "major" referrals

    Magnet Application Information

    Applications for the 2024-2025 school year will open on January 16, 2024 and close at 4:00 p.m. on February 13, 2024.  You must have the application completed by 4:00 on that day in order to be considered for the first round of review.  Any applications after that time will be processed as a late application.  The link to the application will be on the district’s magnet website (www.sbac.edu/magnet).  The open house schedule, as well as links to each program are also on that site.

    Track 1: 
    9th grade: AgScience Foundations 1
    10th grade: AgriTech 1
    11th grade: AgriTech 2
    12th grade: Independent Study/AgBusiness Ownership

    Track 2: 
    9th grade: AgScience Foundations 1
    10th grade: Ag Leadership and Management
    11th grade: Principles of Agribusiness (counts as an Economics credit)
    12th grade: Independent Study/AgBusiness Ownership
