Dear Parents and Guardians,
WELCOME to another exciting year at Idylwild Elementary! My name is Ilissa Evans, and I am your child’s teacher this year. I am very excited about this upcoming school year. This is my nineth year here at Idylwild, and I’m looking forward to an educational and fun school year with your child. Also, I would like to thank you in advance for your cooperation and support throughout the year.
The school day starts and the tardy bell rings promptly at 7:45AM Students may start entering my classroom at 7:30a.m. Breakfast is eaten in the classroom. Please make sure your child is at school and on time. Tardiness and excessive absences will effect their education. The school day ends at 1:45PM on Mon., Tues., Thurs., and Fri. Early Releaseis onWednesdayand students will be dismissed at 12:30PM
Your child will be expected to complete homework in Reading and Math Monday through Thursday with additional homework in Reading and Math over the weekend. I encourage your assistance and support to help your child become responsible for their schoolwork. Your child’s homework grade will also be a part of their 9-week grade, therefore making it of the utmost importance that they complete and return it to me daily. Your child will receive a red folder for homework and important papers. They will take this home every night. They use it throughout the day, so please make sure they bring it back daily. If they lose or misplace it, please replace the folder with a new one.
On Monday, you will find your child’s weekly Spelling test, Reading test and class work from the week prior in their folder. This is my way of keeping you informed on your child’s weekly progress in their subjects. Papers that require your attention will be marked with a stamp that says “Parent Signature” and placed on the left side of the folder. In addition, each student will receive an Interim Progress Report half way through the 9-week period.
Each week students are learning a new phonics skill, new grammar skills, and getting practice with reading comprehension/fluency practice. Our reading program is a literature based program full of stories the students enjoy!
Students are required to complete 20 minutes of reading out loud with you each night. Reading Logs should be kept in the red Homework Folder at all times. Reading Logs will be reviewed by me daily.
Spelling words and vocabulary words will go home on Monday. Spelling Lists are posted for most of the year, so you may view the new spelling list over the weekends. Spelling is solely up to students to practice.
I send home extra homework for some of the topics the kids still need practice with. Please help by checking your child's homework each night. You will find extra practice on the web site.
Your child has been given a red Homework Folder. Your child’s homework folder is a communication tool for us to keep in contact with each other. Please review the folder each night. Your child should bring this folder home and back to school every day.
Please remove your child’s weekly work each Monday. Review the contents of the packet with your child and correct anything that has to be returned. This is how I let you know about your child’s weekly grades.
Please keep checking for postings of weekly spelling lists or extra Math and Reading practice. Please feel free to E-mail or call me anytime if you have any questions or concerns. I am very excited about this up coming school year!
