• Resources

I have compiled a list of resources.  The topics include subject matter such as internet safety, kid-friendly search engines, and educational websites for the kids to explore.

    • National Geographic for Kids -- Enough said :)

    • Fun Questions to Ask Kids -- this is a list of 30 questions to ask kids at the end of the day.  Ideally these will hopefully elicit a better response than just asking "how was your day?"
    • Dolch Word Lists -- Wikipedia can describe Dolch words much better than I can and it even provides all the dolch words.  The link I provided takes you directly to the kindergarten list, but you can easily navigate yourself to other grade levels as well.  One nice thing about this site is that it provides you with sample activities to use, something that Wikipedia does not do.

    • National Center for Missing and Exploited Children -- this website focuses on internet safety.  There are presentations targeted at specific audiences along with videos on a variety of topics ranging from cyberbullying to social networking.  In addition to the presentations and videos, there are articles discussing blogging, predators, cell phones, and internet gaming.  I would highly recommend exploring the website.

    • Safesearch -- Google's search engine designed for children.  It  screens for and filters out sites that contain inappropriate content, inlcuding images. As Google states on its own site, “no filter is 100% accurate, but SafeSearch should eliminate most inappropriate material.” If something does slip through, please contact Google so that it can be corrected.

    • Just for Students -- this is the link to all the district approved and supported links.  Some of them can only be accessed in school (such as Earobics), but others can be accessed at home (such as Ticket to Read).
