The A. Quinn Jones Center was awarded the Catalyst for Change grant. The A. Quinn Jones Center was one of five schools awarded the grant. Mrs. Pardue, media specialist, spearheaded the completion of the grant. The project will update the A. Quinn Jones media center, which currently has less than 3000 titles, with inspiring and relevant literature. Our media center needs novels that touch on important topics with voices that our students will relate to their lives. The grant will also enable the purchase of classroom novel sets. If students are reading literature that establishes a connection between the novel and reader, on-task behavior increases and their engagement with the storyline will encourage them to continue to read.
The ultimate goals of the project are to increase student scores on the ELA FSA, to reduce the number of out-of-school suspensions for African American students and improve student attendance through student engagement.
