During the next few weeks, high school students ages 12 and up can get free COVID-19 vaccinations at school during the regular school day thanks to a partnership between Alachua County Public Schools and the Alachua County Health Department. Students 12 and older are eligible for the Pfizer vaccine, which is safe and effective for teens. Students will be getting two vaccinations, spaced three to four weeks apart. The shots will be available at Newberry High School on Thursday, August 26th, from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. and again on Thursday, September 16th, from 1:00 pm. until 2:00 pm. The school schedule will also be available at www.sbac.edu/vaccines.
In keeping with our COVID-19 protocols limiting visitors on campus, parents will not be present for the clinics. Students ages under the age of 18 must have a consent form signed by a parent or guardian for each vaccination. Students 18 and older may sign their own forms. The consent form and additional information about the vaccine are attached. Students can bring the form with them the day of their school’s clinic. However, we ask that the form be returned to the NHS Front Office ahead of time to help organize the clinics. Again, the consent form must be signed for a student to receive the vaccine. Please visit the NHS website or contact the NHS Front Office to obtain copies.
