Upward Bound Math and Science Program

We are excited to announce the start of an Upward Bound Math and Science Program in partnership with Santa Fe College. This is a federally funded program designed to provide first generation and/or low-income 9th and 10th grade high school students enrolled at Newberry High School with the academic skills and motivation necessary to succeed in pre-college studies, specifically in math and science. The goal of the program is to help students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science and to encourage them to pursue postsecondary degrees in math and science, and ultimately careers in the math and science profession.

  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be a potential first-generation college student (neither parent has a bachelor's degree)
  • Maintain a minimum unweighted GPA of 3.0
  • Meet the income guideline requirements set by the U.S. Department of Education
  • Expected to actively participate in the program until high school graduation
  • Must demonstrate academic potential for college
  • Must have desire to further their education after high school graduation
