New Student Orientation / Back to School

We are very excited to welcome the Class of 2028 to Newberry High School! We would like to invite you to our New Student Orientation and provide you with important information regarding the start of school:

  • Our “New Student Orientation” will be on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the NHS Auditorium. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet some of the 9th grade teachers, take a brief tour of our campus, and receive your tentative schedules. Additionally, our clubs, organizations, and sports teams will have information tables set up to answer any questions you may have.
  • Newberry High School is a 1:1 Laptop School, which means that every student at NHS is assigned a laptop allowing access to digital textbooks and transitioning between classwork, testing, and homework. All students/families who attend our New Student Orientation will be issued their laptop in preparation of the school year and they will keep this assigned laptop for their entire academic career at Newberry High School. Any student who does not attend the New Student Orientation will be issued their laptop during the first week of school.
  • Don’t forget the (extra credit) summer coursework (information was sent out this morning)! Every NHS student has the opportunity to complete summer coursework to earn extra credit in their English course. Information is available on the Newberry High School website (https://www.sbac.edu/newberryhigh) designated as "Summer Reading Assignments" in the Important Information section for all the information required to complete these assignments.
  • Students will begin the 2024-25 school year on Monday, August 12th, with the ringing of our First Bell at 8:30 am and we are already looking forward to seeing all those smiling faces! On the 1st day of school, students will locate their name on the grade sheets posted in the NHS Commons Area to find their 1st period teacher. That teacher will have their schedules for the 2024-25 school year. IMPORTANT: There may be changes to schedules distributed during the New Student Orientation, so please make sure to follow these instructions.
  • Final course placements are ultimately made to satisfy requirements for graduation and/or class size and availability. Please note, as per our school’s policy, schedule changes will be limited to scheduling errors or conflicts, or changes which may be necessary to satisfy graduation requirements or meet scholarship criteria.
  • Students who attend Newberry High School are no longer automatically eligible for the free breakfast/lunch program through the USDA . In order for your child to qualify for the free or reduced meal plan at Newberry High School, you must complete a meal application EACH YEAR. Additional information about the qualification requirements and the application process (as well as the online application) can be found at https://www.yourchoicefresh.com/meal-apps/
  • Student who plan to participate in a sport at NHS must complete the REQUIRED Online FHSAA Clearance. Make sure to visit https://athleticclearance.fhsaahome.org/ for more information.
  • Please make sure that your contact information in Skyward is up to date and accurate so that you can stay informed about the happenings at Newberry High School. All messages sent to you from NHS via phone, text, and email are generated from the contact information in Skyward.
  • It is important for you to maintain Skyward Family Access as this will give you direct access to your child's grades, attendance, behavior, as well as grading reports. If you have any questions or problems accessing Skyward Family Access, please contact Mrs. Honeycutt in the NHS Guidance Office for assistance.
  • Additionally, we recommend you follow our Facebook page (“Newberry High School" - https://www.facebook.com/Newberry-High-School-925607687827169) for additional information posted there relating to upcoming events as well as information which you may find helpful.
