November 4, 2020 Announcements

It’s a great day to be a Newberry Panther!
Here are the announcements for November 4th:
We are excited to announce that our SGA kicked off our annual food drive for Thanksgiving this week. Our goal is to feed 30 NHS families this year and we need your help! SGA has distributed boxes to every 1st period teacher with a list of items needed to fill the box. SGA will collect the completed box and bring another one. (Feel free to put extra items in the box, but the box will only "count" if it contains everything on the list.) The 1st period that collects the most boxes will win a gourmet breakfast!
Tickets are now on sale online at and in the front office for our next Varsity football game, a post-season match up in the District Quarterfinals against the Trenton Tigers AT HOME on Friday, November 13th at 7:30 pm. The cost of tickets is $8.00 per person.
The girls’ weightlifting team will start their season by travelling to Bell High School (930 South Main Street, Bell, FL) today to compete at 4:00 pm. The girls will compete next against Cedar Key School at home on Monday, November 9th, beginning at 3:15 pm.
Our boys’ and girls’ soccer seasons will kick off with the first games of the season this Monday, November 9, at St. Francis High School (4100 NW 115th Terrace, Gainesville, FL). The girls will take the field at 5:00 pm and the boy’s will play at 7:00 pm. The boys’ and girls’ teams will again travel to play on Tuesday, November 10, at Lafayette High School (160 NE Hornet Drive, Mayo, FL) with the girls beginning play at 5:00 pm and the boys’ game starting at 7:00 pm.
Our Robotics Club has a meeting scheduled after school today in Ms. Flowers’ room.
Congratulations to Mrs. Denise Cueto for being voted our Teacher of the Year! We know she is an fantastic choice to represent all of our amazing teachers here at NHS.
After school CROP sessions will continue (Tuesday through Thursday, 3:00 pm until 6:30 pm) through November 19th. Please reach out to the Guidance Office if you are interested in having your child participate in these remaining sessions in order to make up missing credits for graduation.
The ASVAB test (used to determine qualification for enlistment in the military) is given at high schools all over the country once a year. This year the ASVAB test will be given at the NHS campus on Wednesday, November 18th. If you’re interested in taking the test, make sure to sign up to take the test in the Guidance Office ASAP!
Parents! Don’t forget there will be no school for students this Friday, November 6th, as it is a Teacher Workday. Also, please remember there is no school next Wednesday, November 11th, in observance of Veteran’s Day.
Today’s reminder:
Food and Drinks: There should be none in the buildings. NHS is a closed campus and students are not permitted to leave campus for lunch. Students are not allowed to bring Polar Cups or “to go” cups to campus. Water bottles are encouraged and we have several bottle filling stations around campus.
Students, please remember to check your school email accounts everyday for important announcements and reminders. Remember, if you are having trouble or have questions about anything at all, turn to an adult. And please, if you see something, say something ( Everyone believes in your success but “whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right --Henry Ford”, but most importantly, “Always remember, Shepp loves the kids!”
