November 13, 2020 Announcements
It’s a great day to be a Newberry Panther!
Here are the announcements for Friday, November 13th:
We were glad to see everyone back after our brush with Tropical Storm Eta. A makeup day will not be needed for Thursday’s closure because of the extra time built into each school day.
We are continuing our annual food drive for Thanksgiving until next Friday (November 20th)! Our goal is to feed 30 NHS families this year and we are making progress, but we need your help. SGA has distributed boxes to every 1st period teacher with a list of items needed to fill the box. SGA will collect the completed box and bring another one. (Feel free to give extra items but the box will only "count" if it contains everything on the list.) The 1st period that collects the most boxes will win a gourmet breakfast!
Due to the upcoming Thanksgiving school break, school meal sites will be distributing meals for 14 days (between both days) by doubling the meals handed out at all of the pickup locations in Alachua County next week on Tuesday and Thursday, from 9:30 am until 1:00 pm. Be sure to pick up meals on both days! There will be no meal distribution on November 24th or November 26th.
Report Cards for the first 9 weeks of this semester are now available in Skyward. If you need assistance with viewing the Report Card in Skyward, or if you are unable to print a copy of the Report Card, please contact the NHS Guidance Office.
The ASVAB test will take place next Wednesday, November 18th (during the school day) at the NHS campus. If you are interested in taking this test, please make sure to sign up in the Guidance Office. It’s not too late to sign up, if you haven’t already done so!
The Varsity football game against Trenton High School scheduled for tonight has been cancelled. Paper tickets sold from the NHS front office for this game will be honored at next week’s game but tickets purchased from GoFan will be processed automatically for a refund and new tickets will need to be purchased for next week’s game.
The Varsity football team will play the winner of the Wildwood/Bronson matchup next Friday, November 20th, AT HOME with a 7:30 pm kickoff for the Regional semifinals. Tickets for that upcoming game will be on sale soon.
The Varsity volleyball game against the Snead Pirates for the State Championship originally scheduled for today was postponed due to Tropical Storm Eta until Sunday, November 15th, at 4:00 pm at the Suncoast Credit Union Arena (13351 FSW Parkway, Ft. Myers, FL). Tickets are still on sale at GoFan. Tickets will not be sold at the door on the day of the game. You can also watch the livestream for the game by purchasing access through Spectrum through the following link (Newberry vs. Sneads). Since the team is heading out to Ft. Myers on Saturday, come on out and line the sides of Main Street at 9:15 am on Saturday to help send them off!
The boys’ soccer team will play at The Rock (9818 SW 4th Avenue, Gainesville, FL) on Monday, November 16th, beginning at 6:00 pm. Tickets for the game will be sold at the gate.
The Lady Panthers basketball JV and Varsity teams will take the court to start their season on Monday, November 16th, at Chiefland High School (808 North Main Street, Chiefland, FL). Tip off for the JV team will be at 5:30 pm and the Varsity girls will play at 700 pm. Tickets for this game will be sold at the door.
The Varsity girls will play again on Tuesday, November 17th, AT HOME beginning at 6:00 pm. The ticket price for this game is $7.00 per person and tickets are on sale now in the NHS front office and at GoFan.
The boys’ Varsity basketball team will participate in a preseason tournament at Eastside High School (1201 SE 43rd Street, Gainesville, FL) on November 17th and 19th. Game times and opposing teams are to be determined.
Our girls’ weightlifting team will compete on Tuesday, November 17th at Eastside High School (1201 SE 43rd Street, Gainesville, FL) at 4:30 pm.
The FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) held their weekly meeting this morning in Mrs. Harris’ room before school. If you are interested in joining this club, please see Mrs. Harris.
Phones and Headphones: These must be off and out of sight, both in class and during class changes. Cell phones and headphones are only permitted to be in use before and after school, and during lunch periods.
Students, please remember to check your school email accounts everyday for important announcements and reminders. Remember, if you are having trouble or have questions about anything at all, turn to an adult. And please, if you see something, say something (www.getfortifyfl.com). Everyone believes in your success but “whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right --Henry Ford”, but most importantly, “Always remember, Shepp loves the kids!”
