May 1, 2021 Announcements

It’s a great day to be a Newberry Panther!
Here are the announcements for Monday, May 3rd:

Teacher Appreciation Week started today and we hope you will take a moment to thank a teacher for their continued hard work and dedication to our students!

The Herff Jones representative will be on the NHS campus tomorrow to deliver graduation announcements during Lunch A and Lunch B. Make sure to stop by and pick yours up if you ordered them. Additionally, if you have not already done so, please make sure to order your cap and gown for graduation from Herff Jones. Order forms are available in the NHS front office or you can order directly from Herff Jones at their website (www.herffjones.com).

SENIORS: We are collecting memories from your time here at NHS for the senior video. Please bring your pictures to Ms. Steele in the media center or email them to steelesd@gm.sbac.edu. Additionally, Senior Week is quickly approaching. We have many fun activities planned, one of which is a trip to Hornsby Springs. That day will include breakfast and lunch and an excursion to the springs. The cost of the day is $10 each and Mr. Marlowe is collecting the money.

Pre-season training for the fall color guard will be starting today from 5:30 pm until 7:30 pm. No experience needed. See Mr. DeRemer for more information.

SIDELINE CHEER: The sideline cheer squad will be holding tryouts in the NHS gym on May 26th (changed date). Open gym, in order to work on skills, will be conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays through May 20th. Clinics to prepare for tryouts will be on May 22nd, May 24th, and May 25th. Interested participants must either have a current physical on file with NHS or bring one with them to the open gym night.

BASEBALL: The Varsity team will play in a Regional Semifinals playoff game AT HOME this Friday, May 7th, against Crescent City High School beginning at 7:00 pm. Information regarding the sale of tickets will be posted as soon as it becomes available. There will be a restriction on the number of tickets so make sure to get your tickets early! (A win this Friday will mean that our team will play in the Regional Finals AT HOME next Tuesday, May 11th, against either Fort Meade High School or Williston High School, beginning at 7:00 pm.)

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL: There will be an Open Gym on Wednesdays, beginning this Wednesday, May 5th, for any girls interested in becoming a part of the girls’ basketball team next year. Please make sure to bring your own water bottle if you plan to participate. See Coach Hughes if you have any questions. You must either have a current physical on file with NHS or bring one with you to open gym night.

Today’s reminder:
Tardies: Whether you attend school through the digital academy or as a brick and mortar student, tardies impact school success and student behavior, are a distraction to all students, and cause a disruption in teaching. Make sure you’re on time every day, to every class. Excessive tardies may result in lunch detention or ISD.

Students, please remember to check your school email accounts everyday for important announcements and reminders. Remember, if you are having trouble or have questions about anything at all, turn to an adult. And please, if you see something, say something (www.getfortifyfl.com). Everyone believes in your success but “whether you think you can or you think you can’t, you’re right --Henry Ford” BUT most importantly, “Always remember, Shepp loves the kids!”
