Policies and Procedures

  • The Idylwild Media Center functions on a fixed/flexible schedule.

    • Kindergarten through Fifth grade visit the Media Center as part of the 5 day Specials rotation. Students may come to the Media Center at other times with a Hall Pass from their teacher.
    • Kindergarten and First Graders check out 1 book at a time. Kindergartners usually keep their books in their classrooms.
    • Grades 2 through 5 may check out 2 books at a time.
    • Books are due every 2 weeks. If a student needs more time to finish a book, they may renew it up to 3 times.
    • Students with overdue books will not be permitted to check out additional books.
    • If a book is lost, we would appreciate receiving the cost of the book, which will then be used to order a new one. A new book will also be accepted as a trade for a lost book.
    • Information skill classes are scheduled with individual teachers, who then collaborate with the Media Specialist to provide lessons covering the grade level objectives.
    • The Media Center is a quiet and calm place and the behavior expectations reflect this.
    • We love books and sharing them, so please come in and find one to borrow!

    Parent Visits

Parents are encouraged to visit the Media Center and check out books. Parents may request a library card that will enable them to check out 5 books.  The Media Aide is available to assist parents when needed. Parents may come to the Media Center to learn more about any programs offered. Students who come before or after school need a Hall Pass from a teacher or a parent accompanying them to visit the Media Center.

  • READ, READ, READ

Reading is good for all brains. Students should read, or be read to, every day for 20-30 minutes to develop their brains. Come visit us to find a great book to dive into..

Internet Safety

  • The Internet contains wonderful resources for kids and it has drastically changed the way kids interact with the world. The variety and ease of access makes the Internet an invaluable tool for students, teachers and parents today. The use of the Internet expands your child’s computer and information literacy skills and their understanding of the world around them. With the help and guidance of teachers and parents alike, the online world can be a safe, exciting and informative place for your child to learn and grow.

Here at Idylwild, the Web is an important educational tool that we use on a daily basis. Students will learn Internet Safety Rules and teachers will take measures to keep students safe as they use the Internet. The school district's filter blocks various Websites that contain content that is unsuitable for students. Also, students are monitored by an adult when using a computer.
